Last week on the Masterminds and Mentors Blog Talk Radio Show we talked about books and had loads of fun. One of Sherry’s favorites is Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Suess. We also announced our fantastic new 2010 Leadership Boot Camps that will be starting in January of next year. There will be more news to come on our boot camps, but in true Dr.Suess fashion, Sherry thought that our next show announcement needed a little more flair so this is the way she ended last nights show:

Wikipedia: Plan B is a popular term used to mean a reserved, secondary plan, in case a first plan fails.
- Having a Plan B automatically implies failure of Plan A
- One foot in the door, one foot out of the door suggests the lack of commitment
- When focusing on Plan B; Plan A is compromised by a lack of focus
- Plan B can quickly allow us to become an expert in distraction

The time to do it is NOW!
The change of seasons means so much. Springtime for me means a renewed spirit. Different outdoor and indoor activities to consider. A new focus on how to spend my time.
Springtime for me, outside of these annoying allergies, means more energy. Energy to apply to the many activities that not only do I let go over the winter but all of those terrific activites that I can now do outdoors. The bright sun shows me what I let go indoors over the long winter season and must take care of inside the house. Crazy how I don’t see some of that dirt all winter long. LOL. Suddenly when the front door opens … where on earth did that, that, that dirt come from?! OK, great. I can take care of this stuff in the early part of the day so that as it warms, I can be outdoors.
Outdoors. The frogs are croaking and I can hear as the birds return to the woods behind the house. Good thing I put new bird seed out there because if I am not mistaken, the Rose Breasted Grosebeek made it’s return sometime over night. The Wren’s too, I heard them for the first time this spring; this morning. I have heard from others that the Hummingbirds are back, but I haven’t seen one. Today I must get their red drink out for them. I just bought some oranges for the Baltimore Oriels, they can’t be far behind. Food for everyone!
Flowers. It is Mother’s Day weekend so I will be treating myself to a lovey assortment of beautiful and colorful flowers. I LOVE THIS! I can’t wait to get outside and participate in the dirt and the subsequent lovely brilliant blooms of flower life. And let’s not forget, nectar for those crazy birds.
What does all of this energy do to my business?
One thing is for sure. Saturday mornings past were to get up and spend hours working on the business tasks that I delight in doing for my customers and the people that I work closely with. While I still spend some time doing that, it pales by comparison to what I was able to do just three or four short weeks ago. Sunday mornings from time to time, included some level of business if for no other reason than to keep up the momentum. Keep moving forward. Sunday morning business momentum, well; I don’t see business sneaking in to these upcoming spring and summer days very much at all.
So if I am reducing Saturdays and eliminating Sunday’s business activities for a couple of short months, will I accomplish as much business? I will go out on a limb and say….YES!
If I am feeling energized about myself in the spring, there are so many others out there who are equally jazzed to make some changes and quite possibly; others who are even more whipped up and excited than I! I think this is where the saying comes in, work hard and play harder. This quote must have been coined in MN in the springtime. LOL.
My business of assisting others in moving forward in their business and their professional lives is so very exciting; for those who participate in the Masterminds and Mentors groups and for me. Small business owners or solopreneurs will work very hard during the week to better their business; overcome personal barriers which will directly better their bottom line. Masterminds Advantage focuses those who want a deeper level of accountability and want to accomplish “impossible” things! I get the privilege of working with those who believe in the “work hard play harder” mentality. And considering currently all of the Masterminds and Mentors activity is located in Minnesota, I am betting we all spend more time working ON ourselves and our business during the week and ON our personal lives on the weekends.
So why am I sitting here writing all of this when there are so many exciting things to do today?
I had heard of Mastermind groups but had never had any personal experience with one. I was having coffee with a friend from a
networking group and he said to me, “I have to introduce you to Coach Gibbs,
the two of you think a lot alike.” He
was participating in a Mastermind group, with Coach Gibbs as the facilitator,
and he started telling me about the positive experiences he had had since
participating in the group. Intrigued, I
encouraged him to ask Coach Gibbs to give me a call.
I have been around the block enough times to have a healthy skepticism about some of the
“self improvement” programs out there.
Since I had not personally experienced a Mastermind and Mentors program,
I kept an open mind when Coach Gibbs called me but I was not an immediate
convert to the Mastermind concept.
After some discussion with Coach Gibbs about her Masterminds and Mentors program, I was
interested enough to participate in a small seminar called Momentum. Momentum is a 3 to 4 hour seminar that gives
you a glimpse into the Masterminds and Mentors process and how effective it can
be for achieving your vision. After the
seminar, I was convinced that a Masterminds and Mentors program would be very
beneficial to me in my exploration of where I was trying to go with my
On my journey of discovery, through a Masterminds and Mentors program, I realized
that the real value of a good mastermind group is not the helpful tools and
incredible ideas you receive when working with other like minded people, but
the satisfaction of reaching your end goal in a successful manner. My end
goal was to clarify the vision of my business and implement a process for
success. My personal experience in the
Masterminds and Mentors program helped me achieve my goal, with a surprising
As I said, I started the 6 month M & M program to help me achieve clarity around my
business vision and to develop a program to be successful in attaining that
vision. I was starting a new business in
an industry that I was very knowledgeable and skilled in but was feeling a very
low level of satisfaction with. I am
pleased to say that at the end of the 6 month program, I had achieved my
goal. I now have a very clear vision of
my business and a definite path to reach success in my chosen field.
I receive great satisfaction in my business now and I have a roadmap for success, because
of the strong support, great tools, honest feedback and creative ideas from my
M & M team. And, as I said, the
results of participating in the M & M program produced some surprising and
unexpected results regarding my business.
I am now a Masterminds and Mentors Coach and Facilitator.
I found that my dissatisfaction came from the fact that I was in the wrong business,
for me. I was already doing the business
coaching and I had clients that were already coming to me for business
consulting. I was trying to make a
business model fit into something it wasn’t made to do. Through M & M I am able to use the skills
I have been using all along. Since becoming a facilitator, I have learned new
tools to help businesses succeed as well.
My goal, as a Masterminds and Mentors facilitator is to create a
successful learning and discovery environment for every M & M participant. My passion is to help each person who
participates in my M & M programs to be as excited and as satisfied with
their results as I am.
Now, I am not saying that everyone that goes through a M & M program will achieve the
same caliber of results that I did. To
reach your goal takes hard work in a M & M program. It also takes dedication, constant
reassessment to ensure that the goal is kept in sight and being accountable to
complete the work that is needed to achieve the desired outcome.
I challenge you to be all that you can be by participating in a Masterminds and Mentors
program. Whether you are new in
business, have been in business for awhile or are searching to find your own
business niche, join me in my next Masterminds and Mentors program on your own
journey of discovery. I look forward to
seeing you as we explore the possibilities together.

Masterminds and Mentors
Today I kicked off a Train the Trainer Seminar for 3 brillant women. Women who not only are deeply involved with a thriving business of their own, but are interested and excited to become a part of the Masterminds and Mentors Vision!
One of the things that is so great about this group; is that to a person the idea of helping others reach or exceed thier personal busines goals is extremely important. They all have successful careers, are intuitive to the needs of others, have a willingness to participate in new and exciting adventures and are willing to help support in the building of what is sure to be a great business. A business that is designed to give the small employer the same benefits and opportunities that large companies can have more easily. Visioning, Collaboration, Goal Setting, Action Planning and Accountability to name a few of the tools and processes that will be available on a larger scale.
This next week we will be training. After that, we will be able to market to a more expansive audience involving multiple locations. This is all so exciting.
Over the next week, I will be announcing the names of the newly trained Facilitators! At that point, please join me in giving them a huge welcome!
Welcome to the first M&M BTR show. I am thrilled to be here! This next 30 minutes is going to set the stage about what Mastermind groups are about and who participates in groups. Specifically we will talk about M&M and what sets this group apart! But before we do, let me tell you…..
Let me tell you about myself!
HI! I am Cindy Gibbs. Coach Cindy Gibbs. I am your show host and the Facilitator of the Masterminds and Mentors Accountability Group. I have many years experience in various leadership positions; leading teams through the journey of goal identification, exceeding goals and extraordinary teamwork. Like many in the industry, I had been laid off multiple times – with the 3rd time being the charm. I didn’t want to go back! So that is when the fun began and I became credentialed in coaching. My journey didn’t start out with M&M groups but like everyone else, I met up with some curves in the road, some schools of hard knocks and eventually realized that right in front of my eyes was an opportunity to do what I had dreamed of and even said I wanted to do 25plus years ago!! And that was to pull a group of people together, facilitate a robust discussion and for everyone to walk out of the room having an idea of what they can do differently to make themselves or their business better, stronger, more profitable. I have kept the faith and believe I have achieved that vision.
What is a Mastermind Group?
There are many mastermind groups out there and each one has their own personality and their own agenda. There are a couple of key similarities:
- There is a captive audience of 4-8 like-minded professionals. Some more, some less in terms of participants
- They meet on a regular basis and typically for a couple of hours at least 1x per month
- Each person brings to the table a topic they wish to discuss in an effort to gain input from others
- They leave the meeting excited about making changes in their business or personal life and hopefully look forward to the next meeting
Who participates in a Mastermind Group?
- Typically, it is a group of like minded people
- Small business or similar business needs
- Similar skills sets or success level
- Possibly someone wanting to deepen their Spirituality
- Someone who is looking to make a difference in their business or life
- A person setting out to reach or exceed their goals; possibly even learning what others are doing to set their goals and what is working well and even not so well. Nothing wrong with stealing shamelessly!
- Values the ideas and synergy of others
- Someone who is ready to overcome personal obstacles, take power of their fear of change and taking themselves to the next level.
My chat room is now open! For those of you who may have a question, I will address any questions you have later in the show.
First, let me tell you what prompted me to develop Masterminds and Mentors?
I recognized very early on that one of the missing links to success is:
How often have you, or have I for that matter; attended an event or a meeting leaving all motivated and excited? Only to get home and put the materials on the corner of the table or desk; never to be used for its’ intended purpose but did become a nice coaster or one of the many pieces in a stack of “junk” , mail, to do stack, found its’ way to the circular file or worse yet, used for the bottom of the bird cage?
How often do we leave motivated and excited but when we get home we lack the ability to implement?! We don’t know HOW to do it. Or WHAT to do?
Become too busy to do what we don’t know how to do so it doesn’t get done? Time, I am just too busy to stop and figure out how to do this.
We take the initiative to learn something. To become motivated. But lack the accountability to take the time to slow down and figure out how this really fantastic, often times brilliant information can be easily “implemented” to make a significant difference in my life.
Have you ever been guilty of this? Are you currently guilty of this?
I know I have! And for me it tends to be surrounding something that is not a natural talent for me. For me it is numbers. Yes! Books. Accounting. Bookkeeping. Didn’t like it when I went to school. Still don’t like it! So for me….these once motivating teachings, tips, seminars, what-have-you; sit on the corner of the desk and either get buried or become a convenient coffee coaster. Fear! Fear of failure. Fear of not doing it right. Fear that it will consume too much of my precious time. Sometimes I just wish someone else would do it for me.
We all have our very own reasons for NOT implementing brilliant ideas and for not holding ourselves accountable for achieving increased success.
What is Masterminds and Mentors?
Masterminds and Mentors is a Mastermind Group as I shared earlier. Howvever, It is a group that is “designed” with a specific “purpose” in mind; and that purpose it to get stuff done! We discuss and philosophize. We collaborate and brainstorm. We develop and create action plans. But most importantly – we apply. We apply what we say we want to do. We implement. Not just talk. Let’s do it! We develop mentoring partnerships to see that we are getting those things done. We hold each other accountable. And as a result, we become more accountable to ourselves. We get stuff done!
M&M meetings meet 2’s per month for 2 hours each for 6 months! On the off week of group time, the mentoring partnerships are staying in touch with each other. We are accountable!
CHAT ROOM QUESTIONS
What makes the Masterminds and Mentors group different from others?
There are a couple of things that set M&M meetings apart from the rest.
- Education. I bring to the group tools that work through a discussion and a process. Tools that can be used again and again in the personal and professional lives. We don’t just talk tools. We are handed tools! We work the tools!
- Resources. A plethora of resources are brought to the table. Not just the resources I bring to the group as the facilitator but the resources others in the group share.
- Practicality. We apply what we learn immediately! Roll up our sleeves, develop a plan and leave the meeting with a list of action items that we will be held accountable to achieve. This is what makes this masterminds group stand out and be different. You said you wanted to do something. Well….guess what. Be careful what you ask for!!
What makes me different as a Coach and Facilitator of these Masterminds Groups?
I am a believer in the Golden Rule. The Law of Attraction. Giver’s Gain. And I give whatever I possibly can to help someone succeed. I am only as successful as the group is successful. If someone feels as if they didn’t get anything out of this group, well that means that I failed. Of course I have my boundaries. I am not a counselor or a therapist. But I am highly resourceful and want to share with you the things, people, tools or direction that you may take in order to succeed. My belief is that you get more in “use value” than I receive from the cash value.
I believe I help people move forward. Leave the past behind. Leave the fear of being afraid to try new things, or the fear of failure. We don’t talk can’ts, not’s, won’ts. We talk do’s, can’s, will’s, when’s!
What is next for Masterminds and Mentors Blog Talk Radio?
My how this time has so quickly passed. I will be a guest speaker next week on the BTRS VABS. The host Sherrie Newman will be asking some tough interview questions and I am looking forward to talking with her. That show time is 1/10/11 at 7pm.
Beyond that, Masterminds and Mentors will have another show the first Monday of February, I believe it is the 7th …at 5:30pm. The focus for that show will be to discuss one of the tools we use in the M&M meetings.
Until next time, Have a MASTERMINDS AND MENTORS MONTH!
